NEW OPENING HOURS:  On the 1 September Ilchester Surgery changed its opening hours to; Monday to Friday 9 am - 4 pm.  

We are now offering our patients the opportunity to book an appointment with a GP, or member of the healthcare team at both Ilchester and Buttercross Health Centre, in Somerton. We are working closely together to offer a more flexible range of services, between both locations to help meet patient demand. After 4 pm there will be a continuation of services offered at Buttercross Surgery. For information, advice or to book an appointment, please call the surgery as usual.

Please note, the surgery currently closes between 1 and 2 pm daily for staff training and essential administration. If you need a doctor please call 01935 840207. In an emergency call 999.

 NEWSLETTER

Current NHS guidelines advise us that ordering prescriptions on the telephone can be unsafe and errors can occur. We therefore request patients use alternatives.

We do not take any requests for prescriptions on the phone. You can easily order prescriptions online if you are over 18 years or age. Alternatively please complete the tear off section on the right hand side of your prescription and drop it into the red box in reception. You may also post your request to the surgery. Allow 72 hrs for collection.

At Ilchester Surgery each patient has their own named GP. You can however see any doctor of your choice. Please contact the surgery if you do not know who your named doctor is and our reception staff will be pleased to advise you.

 

 

 

 

 

Appointments

All visits to the doctor  or nurse are by appointment only. If your problem is urgent then you should say so and we will try and fit you in as soon as possible. However we are not an emergency service so depending on the nature of your problem, you may be directed to call 999 or attend the Accident & Emergency Department at Yeovil District Hospital.

The surgery runs a shared list system which means that you may see any one of the doctors but if you need to see a doctor urgently, you are likely to see the duty doctor. You may be offered an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner/Practice Nurse if this is appropriate. Please remember that late afternoon and evening appointments are aimed at those people who cannot leave work early.

It is also helpful if you can let us know if you need to see the doctor or nurse for a special reason, eg for a medical examination, which may need a longer appointment. We try our best not to keep you waiting at the surgery but for the routine appointment slots we allow 10 minutes per patient. If you feel you have more than one thing to discuss, or you may need more time, please ask for a double appointment.

Examples which need a double appointment include: Cervical Screening tests, Asthma, Depression, Diabetic checks or whenever you have a list of more than one thing to discuss. Please ask the receptionist if you feel you are going to need more time to make a double appointment for you.

Chaperones

It is the policy of this practice that patients will be offered or may request a chaperone when an intimate examination is requested by a doctor/nurse.

Reception 

The Reception Staff are trained in medical confidentiality and are an important part of the practice team. The doctor is not always the most appropriate person to deal with your particular medical problem so our Reception Staff may ask you for a rough outline of the problem in order that they can plan the appointment appropriately.

Patients who express a preference to see a particular practitioner must understand that not all practitioners are able to provide the same service. If this is the case, it may well be more appropriate for a patient to see a different practitioner.

Cancelling An Appointment Or Running Late

Please help us by being punctual and we in turn will try not to run late! If you need to cancel an appointment, please let us know well in advance. Appointments cancelled at short notice cannot be offered to other patients. Those patients who persistently fail to attend without adequate notice or reason may be asked to re-register with another practice.

Telephone Advice

The doctors are happy to give advice over the telephone but if they are busy when you telephone, you may be asked to call again or a nurse may be able to help.

Car Parking

Unfortunately the surgery does not have its own patient car park. However there is a small parking area by the Town Hall and a free car park off Limington Road. We would ask that patients do NOT use the Ilchester Arms Hotel car park or the Italian Restaurant next to the surgery.
