Welcome to Buttercross Health Centre and the Ilchester Surgery website
Please ring on the day if you need an appointment. Call 111 for medical advice. Dial 999 if you have a medical emergency.
Please ring from 8.30 if you have an acute problem that needs treatment that day - we will have appointments available with the our Nurse Practitioners and the Duty Doctor.
Our team will ask for some brief information regarding your visit to allow them to help you find the best person for your needs; we are also able to book appointments for our Ilchester Surgery as part of the joint services available.
In addition to Doctors, we have Nurse Practioners (who can prescribe), Emergency Care Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Musculoskeletal Specialists (Physiotherapists), Health Coaches and other Health Professionals who may be able to help you.
Please be assured that all our staff our bound by the strictest rules of confidentiality.
Please request a home visit whenever possible before midday
The doctors will only visit patients who are too ill or disabled to leave home. You may be triaged by a health care professional to determine whether or not a home visit is the preferred option. Most consultations are best done in the Health Centre.
Please note that a lack of transport does not, itself, constitute a justification for a home visit. It is an individual patient's responsibility to make suitable transportation arrangements.
Please ask yourself if a home visit really is necessary before you request one.
Our telephone lines may be very busy at certain times of the day. If your call is for anything other than an urgent appointment that day you may wish to call back at a quieter time
Improved Access – evening and weekend routine appointments
We are now working with a number of our neighbouring GP practices to offer improved access to GP appointments outside of the usual opening hours. This means that there are additional routine appointments across south Somerset, between 18.30 and 20.00 Monday – Friday and on Saturday mornings.
To help patients access a GP more easily, we are able to book appointments in partnership with ten other local GP practices. If you have a relevant medical concern and can’t attend an appointment during the usual clinic hours at the practice, you will be offered an alternative appointment at one of the following practices:
Any patient who is registered at a practice in south Somerset above can request this service. You can make an appointment by ringing your registered practice as usual and the reception team will be able to advise you on which surgery and GP or health care professional are available for each appointment. To find out more about the Improved GP Access scheme, read the GP Improving Access brochure and poster
If you require urgent medical attention when the surgery is closed, please call NHS 111 for advice and access to the Urgent out of Hours GP service. If you have a life threatening injury or illness you should attend A&E, or call 999 and ask for the ambulance service.
